[283] And how, bhikkhus, is it that when a bhikkhu develops the noble eightfold path and cultivates the noble eightfold path, the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) go to fulfillment by development, the four right strivings (sammappadhāna) go to fulfillment by development, the four bases of spiritual power (iddhipāda) go to fulfillment by development, the five faculties (indriya) go to fulfillment by development, the five powers (bala) go to fulfillment by development, and the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga) go to fulfillment by development?
Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view (sammādiṭṭhi) … he develops right concentration (sammāsamādhi), dependent on seclusion (viveka), dependent on dispassion (virāga), dependent on cessation, maturing in release (vossaggapariṇāmī).
It is in this way, bhikkhus, that when a bhikkhu develops the noble eightfold path and cultivates the noble eightfold path, the four establishments of mindfulness go to fulfillment by development, the four right strivings go to fulfillment by development, the four bases of spiritual power go to fulfillment by development, the five faculties go to fulfillment by development, the five powers go to fulfillment by development, and the seven factors of awakening go to fulfillment by development.
