[295] And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu, developing the noble eightfold path, cultivating the noble eightfold path, fully understand by direct knowledge (abhiññā) those dhammas that are to be fully understood by direct knowledge … develop by direct knowledge those dhammas that are to be developed by direct knowledge? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view (sammādiṭṭhi) … develops right concentration (samādhi) (sammāsamādhi), dependent on seclusion (viveka), dependent on dispassion (virāga), dependent on cessation, maturing in relinquishment (vossagga). It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu, developing the noble eightfold path, cultivating the noble eightfold path, fully understands by direct knowledge those dhammas that are to be fully understood by direct knowledge; abandons by direct knowledge those dhammas that are to be abandoned by direct knowledge; realizes by direct knowledge those dhammas that are to be realized by direct knowledge; and develops by direct knowledge those dhammas that are to be developed by direct knowledge.
