[279] And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu, developing the noble eightfold path (magga), cultivating the noble eightfold path, only vomit up evil, unwholesome dhammas and not swallow them back? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view (sammādiṭṭhi), which is based upon seclusion (viveka), based upon dispassion (virāga), based upon cessation, maturing in relinquishment (vossagga-pariṇāmī) … he develops right concentration (sammāsamādhi), which is based upon seclusion, based upon dispassion, based upon cessation, maturing in relinquishment. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu, developing the noble eightfold path, cultivating the noble eightfold path, only vomits up evil, unwholesome dhammas and does not swallow them back.
