[356] "And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu — relying on virtue (sīla), established in virtue — developing the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga), cultivating the seven factors of awakening, attain to greatness and abundance in dhammas? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the mindfulness (sati) factor of awakening, dependent on seclusion (viveka), dependent on dispassion (virāga), dependent on cessation (nirodha), maturing in relinquishment (vossagga); he develops the investigation of dhammas (dhammavicaya) factor of awakening … he develops the energy (vīriya) factor of awakening; he develops the rapture (pīti) factor of awakening; he develops the tranquility (passaddhi) factor of awakening; he develops the concentration (samādhi) factor of awakening; he develops the equanimity (upekkhā) factor of awakening, dependent on seclusion, dependent on dispassion, dependent on cessation, maturing in relinquishment. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu — relying on virtue, established in virtue — developing the seven factors of awakening, cultivating the seven factors of awakening, attains to greatness and abundance in dhammas."
