[753] Setting at Sāvatthī. "Bhikkhus, these four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), when developed and cultivated, are noble, emancipating (niyyānika); they lead the one who acts accordingly out to the complete destruction of suffering (dukkha). What four? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. He dwells contemplating [feelings] in feelings (vedanā), [mind] in mind (citta), dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. These, bhikkhus, are the four establishments of mindfulness which, when developed and cultivated, are noble, emancipating; they lead the one who acts accordingly out to the complete destruction of suffering."
