[122] That bhikkhu should approach several bhikkhus, arrange his upper robe over one shoulder, pay homage at the feet of the senior bhikkhus, sit down squatting on his heels, raise his joined palms (añjali), and address them thus: "Venerable sirs, this bowl of mine, which has passed beyond ten days, is subject to forfeiture (nissaggiya). I forfeit it to the venerable ones." Having forfeited it, the offence (āpatti) should be confessed. The offence should be acknowledged by an experienced and competent bhikkhu. The forfeited bowl should be given back: "Let the venerable ones hear me. This bowl of the bhikkhu named so-and-so, being subject to forfeiture, has been forfeited to the venerable ones. If it is the right time for the venerable ones, let the venerable ones give this bowl back to the bhikkhu named so-and-so."
