[544] **"Whoever"** means: whoever, of whatever sort … **"Bhikkhu"** means … this is the bhikkhu intended in this context.
**"Woman" (mātugāma)** means: a human female, not a female yakkha, not a female peta, not a female animal; one who is intelligent, capable of understanding what is well spoken and badly spoken, what is lewd and what is not lewd.
**"With"** means: together.
**"One … with one"** means: there is just a bhikkhu and a woman.
**"Private" (raho)** means: private to the eye and private to the ear.
**Private to the eye** means: it is not possible for anyone to see when the eyes are winked, an eyebrow is raised, or the head is raised.
**Private to the ear** means: it is not possible for anyone to hear ordinary conversation.
**"Should take a seat"** means: when the woman is seated, if the bhikkhu sits down near her or lies down near her, there is an offense entailing expiation (pācittiya).
