[268] How is there knowledge (ñāṇa) of the discrimination of meanings (attha-paṭisambhidā), knowledge of the discrimination of ideas (dhamma-paṭisambhidā), knowledge of the discrimination of language (nirutti-paṭisambhidā), and knowledge of the discrimination of ready wit (paṭibhāṇa-paṭisambhidā)?
Knowledge with regard to meanings is the discrimination of meanings; knowledge with regard to ideas is the discrimination of ideas; knowledge with regard to language is the discrimination of language; knowledge with regard to ready wit is the discrimination of ready wit.
Wisdom (paññā) regarding the diversity of meanings is knowledge of the discrimination of meanings; wisdom regarding the diversity of ideas is knowledge of the discrimination of ideas; wisdom regarding the diversity of language is knowledge of the discrimination of language; wisdom regarding the diversity of ready wit is knowledge of the discrimination of ready wit.

Wisdom regarding the elucidation of meanings is knowledge of the discrimination of meanings; wisdom regarding the elucidation of ideas is knowledge of the discrimination of ideas; wisdom regarding the elucidation of language is knowledge of the discrimination of language; wisdom regarding the elucidation of ready wit is knowledge of the discrimination of ready wit.
That is knowledge (ñāṇa) in the sense of what is known, and wisdom in the sense of understanding. Hence it is said: knowledge of the discrimination of meanings, knowledge of the discrimination of ideas, knowledge of the discrimination of language, knowledge of the discrimination of ready wit.
