[201] There are knowledges (ñāṇa) regarding the eight dhammas; there are knowledges regarding the eight meanings (attha); there are knowledges regarding the sixteen kinds of language (nirutti). The knowledges regarding dhammas are one thing, the knowledges regarding meanings are another, the knowledges regarding kinds of language are another. By whatever knowledge these diverse knowledges are known, by that very knowledge these diverse knowledges are penetrated. Therefore it is said: wisdom in the diversity of sagacity (paṭibhāṇa) is the knowledge of the discrimination of sagacity (paṭibhāṇa-paṭisambhidā).
That is knowledge in the sense of its being known; wisdom in the sense of knowing fully. Therefore it is said: wisdom in the diversity of meanings is the knowledge of the discrimination of meanings (attha-paṭisambhidā); wisdom in the diversity of dhammas is the knowledge of the discrimination of dhammas (dhamma-paṭisambhidā); wisdom in the diversity of language is the knowledge of the discrimination of language (nirutti-paṭisambhidā); wisdom in the diversity of sagacity is the knowledge of the discrimination of sagacity (paṭibhāṇa-paṭisambhidā).
