[200] There are utterances of phrasing (byañjana) and language (nirutti) for pointing out the eight dhammas; there are utterances of phrasing and language for pointing out the eight meanings (attha). The languages of dhammas are one thing; the languages of meanings are another. By whatever knowledge (ñāṇa) these various expressions of language are known, by that very knowledge these various expressions of language are penetrated. Therefore it is said: wisdom (paññā) regarding the diversity of language is the knowledge of the discrimination of language (niruttipaṭisambhidā).
