[187] Meaning (attha) in the sense of resolution (adhimokkha) is a meaning; meaning in the sense of exertion (paggaha) is a meaning; meaning in the sense of establishment (upaṭṭhāna) is a meaning; meaning in the sense of non-distraction (avikkhepa) is a meaning; meaning in the sense of seeing (dassana) is a meaning. Meaning in the sense of resolution is one thing; meaning in the sense of exertion is another; meaning in the sense of establishment is another; meaning in the sense of non-distraction is another; meaning in the sense of seeing is another. By whatever knowledge (ñāṇa) these different meanings are known, by that very knowledge these different meanings are penetrated. Therefore it is said: wisdom (paññā) in the diversity of meanings is the knowledge of the discrimination of meanings (attha-paṭisambhidā).
