[661] Which form (rūpa) is the eye faculty (cakkhundriya)?
That eye (cakkhu) which is sensitivity (pasāda) derived from the four great elements (mahābhūta) … this too is "an empty village" — this is that form which is the eye faculty.
Which form is the ear faculty (sotindriya)? … the nose faculty (ghānindriya) … the tongue faculty (jivhindriya) … the body faculty (kāyindriya) … the femininity faculty (itthindriya) … the masculinity faculty (purisindriya) … the life faculty (jīvitindriya)?
That which, of those material phenomena (dhammā), is vitality (āyu), persistence (ṭhiti), keeping going (yapanā), being kept going (yāpanā), moving on (iriyanā), proceeding (vattanā), maintaining (pālanā), life (jīvita), the life faculty — this is that form which is the life faculty.
Which form is not a faculty (indriya) and is impinging (sappaṭigha)?
The form sense base (rūpāyatana) … the tangible sense base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) — this is that form which is not a faculty and is impinging.
Which form is not a faculty and is non-impinging (appaṭigha)?
Bodily intimation (kāyaviññatti) … edible nutriment (kabaḷīkāra āhāra) — this is that form which is not a faculty and is non-impinging.
Thus is the classification of form (rūpasaṅgaha) in the tenfold manner.
