[835] Which phenomena (dhammā) are connected with conflict (saraṇā)? The three unwholesome roots (akusalamūla) — greed (lobha), hatred (dosa), delusion (moha) — and the defilements (kilesā) conjoined with them (tadekaṭṭhā); the aggregate of feeling (vedanākkhandha) associated with them (taṃsampayutta) … the aggregate of consciousness (viññāṇakkhandha); the bodily action (kāyakamma), verbal action (vacīkamma), and mental action (manokamma) originated thereby (taṃsamuṭṭhāna) — these phenomena are connected with conflict.
Which phenomena are without conflict (araṇā)? Wholesome and indeterminate (abyākata) phenomena pertaining to the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), the form sphere (rūpāvacara), the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), and the unincluded (apariyāpanna): the aggregate of feeling … the aggregate of consciousness; and all form (rūpa), and the unconditioned element (asaṅkhatā dhātu) — these phenomena are without conflict.
