[803] Which phenomena (dhammā) are subject to defilement (saṅkilesika)?
Wholesome, unwholesome, and indeterminate (abyākata) phenomena that are accompanied by taints (sāsava), belonging to the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), the form sphere (rūpāvacara), and the formless sphere (arūpāvacara): the aggregate of form (rūpakkhandha) … the aggregate of consciousness (viññāṇakkhandha) — these phenomena are subject to defilement.
Which phenomena are not subject to defilement (asaṅkilesika)?
The unincluded (apariyāpanna) paths (magga), the fruits of the paths, and the unconditioned element (asaṅkhatā dhātu) — these phenomena are not subject to defilement.
