[1037] And how is there [the thought], "I am otherwise"? By comparison with another person (puggala): "As that one is a noble (khattiya), I am not thus a noble," or "As that one is a brahmin (brāhmaṇa), I am not thus a brahmin," or "As that one is a merchant (vessa), I am not thus a merchant," or "As that one is a worker (sudda), I am not thus a worker," or "As that one is a householder (gahaṭṭha), I am not thus a householder," or "As that one is one gone forth (pabbajita), I am not thus one gone forth," or "As that one is a deva, I am not thus a deva," or "As that one is a human being (manussa), I am not thus a human being," or "As that one is one having form (rūpī), I am not thus one having form," or "As that one is formless (arūpī), I am not thus formless," or "As that one is percipient (saññī), I am not thus percipient," or "As that one is non-percipient (asaññī), I am not thus non-percipient," or "As that one is neither percipient nor non-percipient (nevasaññīnāsaññī), I am not thus neither percipient nor non-percipient" — thus there is [the thought], "I am otherwise."
