[376] On that occasion, with volitional formation (saṅkhāra) as condition, consciousness (viññāṇa); also with consciousness as condition, volitional formation. With consciousness as condition, mentality (nāma); also with mentality as condition, consciousness. With mentality as condition, the sixth sense base (chaṭṭhāyatana); also with the sixth sense base as condition, mentality. With the sixth sense base as condition, contact (phassa); also with contact as condition, the sixth sense base. With contact as condition, feeling (vedanā); also with feeling as condition, contact. With feeling as condition, existence (bhava); with existence as condition, birth (jāti); with birth as condition, aging-and-death (jarāmaraṇa). Such is the origin (samudaya) of this entire mass of suffering (dukkhakkhandha).
