[491] "He generates zeal" (chandaṃ janeti): … "He makes an effort" (vāyamati): … "He arouses energy" (viriyaṃ ārabhati): … "He uplifts the mind" (cittaṃ paggaṇhāti): … "He exerts himself" (padahati): Therein, what is right exertion (sammappadhāna)? That which is the mental arousing of energy (cetasiko viriyārambho) … right effort (sammāvāyāma), the energy factor of awakening (viriyasambojjhaṅga), a path factor (maggaṅga), included in the path (maggapariyāpanna) — this is called right exertion. The remaining phenomena (dhammā) are associated with right exertion.
