[497] "He makes effort" (vāyamati): Herein, what is effort (vāyāma)? That which is the mental arousing of energy (cetasiko viriyārambho) … right effort (sammāvāyāma), the energy (viriya) factor of awakening (viriyasambojjhaṅga), a factor of the path (magga), included in the path — this is called effort. With this effort he is endowed … possessed. Therefore it is said, "he makes effort."
