[496] **"Generates zeal (chandaṃ janeti)"**: Herein, what is zeal (chanda)? That which is zeal, zealousness (chandīkatā), desire to act (kattukamyatā), wholesome zeal for dhamma (kusala dhammacchanda) — this is called zeal. He generates this zeal, thoroughly generates it, rouses it, thoroughly rouses it, produces it, fully produces it; therefore it is said, "generates zeal."
