[532] Therein, what is the basis for success consisting of zeal (chandiddhipāda)?
Here, on whatever occasion a bhikkhu develops the supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna — leading out (niyyānika), going to dismantling (apacayagāmī) — for the abandoning of wrong views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first stage (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadā dandhābhiññā) — whatever zeal (chanda) there is on that occasion, zealousness, desire to act, wholesome zeal for dhamma (kusalo dhammacchando): this is called the basis for success consisting of zeal. The remaining phenomena (dhammā) are associated with the basis for success consisting of zeal.
