[533] Therein, what is the basis for success consisting of energy (vīriyiddhipāda)?
Here a bhikkhu, on the occasion when he develops the supramundane jhāna — leading out [of the round], tending to dispersal — for the abandoning of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first stage (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge — whatever mental arousing of energy (vīriyārambha) there is on that occasion, … right effort, the energy factor of awakening (vīriya-sambojjhaṅga), a path factor, included in the path — this is called the basis for success consisting of energy. The remaining phenomena (dhammā) are associated with the basis for success consisting of energy.
