[534] Therein, what is the basis for success consisting of mind (cittiddhipāda)?
Here a bhikkhu, on whatever occasion he develops the supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna that leads out (niyyānika) and goes to dispersal (apacayagāmī) — for the abandoning of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first stage (bhūmi) — and, quite secluded from sensual pleasures, … enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna, which is of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipada-dandhābhiñña): whatever on that occasion is mind (citta), mentality (mano), mentation (mānasa), … the corresponding mind-consciousness element (tajjā manoviññāṇadhātu) — this is called the basis for success consisting of mind. The remaining phenomena (dhammā) are associated with the basis for success consisting of mind.
