[535] Therein, what is the basis of success consisting of investigation (vīmaṃsiddhipāda)?
Here a bhikkhu, on the occasion when he develops the supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna that leads out (niyyānika) and leads to dismantling (apacayagāmī), for the abandoning of wrong views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first stage (bhūmi) — quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadā dandhābhiññā): the wisdom (paññā), the understanding (pajānanā), … the non-delusion (amoha), the investigation of dhammas (dhammavicaya), the right view (sammādiṭṭhi), the investigation-of-dhammas factor of awakening (dhammavicaya-sambojjhaṅga) that there is on that occasion, being a path factor (maggaṅga), included in the path (maggapariyāpanna) — this is called the basis of success consisting of investigation. The remaining phenomena (dhammā) are associated (sampayutta) with the basis of success consisting of investigation.
