[730] Here a bhikkhu, on the occasion when he develops supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna — leading out (niyyānika), conducive to dismantling (apacayagāmī) — for the abandoning of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi): with the abandoning of pleasure and … he enters and dwells in the fifth jhāna, of painful practice, with sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadaṃ dandhābhiññaṃ) — on that occasion the jhāna is two-factored (duvaṅgika): equanimity (upekkhā) and one-pointedness of mind (cittassa ekaggatā). This is called the fifth jhāna. The remaining phenomena (dhammā) are associated with the jhāna (jhānasampayuttā).
