[1049] For whomever, wherever, the bodily formation (kāyasaṅkhāra) does not arise, does the verbal formation (vacīsaṅkhāra) not arise for that one there?
Apart from in-breaths and out-breaths (assāsapassāsā), at the moment of arising of thought-conception and discursive thought (vitakka-vicāra), for those [beings] there the bodily formation does not arise, but it is not the case that for those [beings] there the verbal formation does not arise. For all [beings] at the moment of dissolution of the mind (citta); apart from in-breaths and out-breaths, at the moment of arising of a mind without thought-conception and without discursive thought; and for non-percipient beings (asaññasattā) — for those [beings] there the bodily formation does not arise and the verbal formation does not arise.
Or, for whomever the verbal formation … .
Both the "for whom" (yassa) [section] and the "for whom, wherever" (yassa yattha) [section] should be elaborated in the same way. In the "for whom, wherever" [section], [the clause] "for those attained to cessation (nirodhasamāpannā)" is not obtained.
