For those attained to the second jhāna, the third jhāna, and the fourth jhāna, and for those of the Pure Abodes (Suddhāvāsa) while the second mind (citta) is occurring — for them, mental formation arose there, but verbal formation did not arise for them there. For those attained to the first jhāna, for beings of the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), and for the other beings of the form sphere (rūpāvacara) and the formless sphere (arūpāvacara) — for them, both mental formation arose there and verbal formation arose there.
