[1232] In whom the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya), the latent tendency of view (diṭṭhānusaya), the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya), and the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) lie latent — does the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya) lie latent in that person?
Yes.
Or rather, in whom the latent tendency of ignorance lies latent — do the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, the latent tendency of doubt, and the latent tendency of lust for existence lie latent in that person?
In the Non-Returner (anāgāmī), the latent tendency of ignorance, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of lust for existence lie latent, but the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent in him. In two persons, the latent tendency of ignorance, the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of lust for existence lie latent, but the latent tendency of view and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent in them. In the ordinary person (puthujjana), the latent tendency of ignorance lies latent, and the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, the latent tendency of doubt, and the latent tendency of lust for existence lie latent.
