[1316] Whoever, from whatever [basis], has the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya) and the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya) lying latent — does he, from that [basis], have the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya) lying latent?
There is none.
Or rather, whoever, from whatever [basis], has the latent tendency of conceit lying latent — does he, from that [basis], have the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent?
The non-returner (anāgāmī) — in the two feelings (vedanā) in the sense-sphere element (kāmadhātu), in the form element (rūpadhātu), and in the formless element (arūpadhātu): from these he has the latent tendency of conceit lying latent, but from these he does not have the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent. Three persons — in the form element and in the formless element: from these they have the latent tendency of conceit lying latent, but from these they do not have the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent. Those same persons — in the two feelings in the sense-sphere element: from these they have the latent tendency of conceit and the latent tendency of sensual lust lying latent, but from these they do not have the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent.
Whoever, from whatever [basis], has the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent — does he, from that [basis], have the latent tendency of view (diṭṭhānusaya) … the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya) lying latent?
There is none.
Or rather, whoever, from whatever [basis], has the latent tendency of doubt lying latent — does he, from that [basis], have the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent?
The ordinary person (puthujjana) — in the form element and in the formless element: from these he has the latent tendency of doubt lying latent, but from these he does not have the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent. That same person — in the two feelings in the sense-sphere element: from these he has the latent tendency of doubt and the latent tendency of sensual lust lying latent, but from these he does not have the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent. That same person — in painful feeling: from that he has the latent tendency of doubt and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent, but from that he does not have the latent tendency of sensual lust lying latent.
Whoever, from whatever [basis], has the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent — does he, from that [basis], have the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) lying latent?
There is none.
Or rather, whoever, from whatever [basis], has the latent tendency of lust for existence lying latent — does he, from that [basis], have the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent?
No.
Whoever, from whatever [basis], has the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent — does he, from that [basis], have the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya) lying latent?
There is none.
Or rather, whoever, from whatever [basis], has the latent tendency of ignorance lying latent — does he, from that [basis], have the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion lying latent?
