[1407] From wherever one does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya), the latent tendency of view (diṭṭhānusaya), and the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya), does one not abandon the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) from there?
Yes.
Or rather, from wherever one does not abandon the latent tendency of lust for existence, does one not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt from there?
In the case of painful feeling (dukkhā vedanā), one does not abandon from there the latent tendency of lust for existence, the latent tendency of sensual lust, and the latent tendency of conceit, but it is not the case that one does not abandon from there the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt. In the case of the two feelings in the sensuous element (kāmadhātu), one does not abandon from there the latent tendency of lust for existence and the latent tendency of repulsion, but it is not the case that one does not abandon from there the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt. In the case of the unincluded (apariyāpanna), one does not abandon from there the latent tendency of lust for existence, and one does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt.
From wherever one does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt, does one not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya) from there?
