[1385] Does one who abandons the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya), the latent tendency of view (diṭṭhānusaya), and the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya) from a given place abandon the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) from that place?
There is none.
Or rather, does one who abandons the latent tendency of lust for existence from a given place abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt from that place?
He abandons the latent tendency of conceit.
Does one who abandons the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt from a given place abandon the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya) from that place?
There is none.
Or rather, does one who abandons the latent tendency of ignorance from a given place abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt from that place?
One endowed with the highest path (aggamagga-samaṅgī), in regard to painful feeling (dukkhā vedanā): he abandons the latent tendency of ignorance from that place, but he does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt from that place. That same person, in regard to the two feelings in the sense-sphere element (kāmadhātu), in the form element (rūpadhātu), and in the formless element (arūpadhātu): he abandons the latent tendency of ignorance and the latent tendency of conceit from that place, but he does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt from that place.
