[563] For whomever the eye base (cakkhāyatana) will not cease, will the nose base (ghānāyatana) not cease for him?
Yes.
Or rather, for whomever the nose base will not cease, will the eye base not cease for him?
For beings in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) who are being reborn into the form sphere (rūpāvacara), and for those who, having been reborn into the form sphere, will attain final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) — for these, as they are passing away, the nose base will not cease, but it is not the case that the eye base will not cease for them. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), for beings in their final existence in the formless sphere (arūpa), and for those who, having been reborn into the formless sphere, will attain final Nibbāna — for these, as they are passing away, both the nose base will not cease and the eye base will not cease.
