[634] For whomever the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not cease, will the nose base (ghānāyatana) not cease for him?
For all who are being reborn, and for those without the eye who are passing away: their eye base does not cease, but it is not the case that their nose base will not cease. For beings in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) who are being reborn into the form realm (rūpāvacara), and for beings in their final existence in the formless (arūpa): their eye base does not cease, and their nose base will not cease.
Or rather, for whomever the nose base will not cease, does the eye base not cease for him?
For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), and for those who, having been reborn into the form realm or the formless realm (arūpāvacara), will attain final Nibbāna — as they are passing away: their nose base will not cease, but it is not the case that their eye base does not cease. For beings in their final existence who are being reborn into the form realm, and for beings in their final existence in the formless: their nose base will not cease, and their eye base does not cease.
