[635] For whomever the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not cease, will the form base (rūpāyatana) of that one not cease?
For all who are being reborn, and for those without eye who are passing away — their eye base does not cease, but it is not the case that their form base will not cease. For those in the formless [realm] (arūpa) who are in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) — their eye base does not cease, and their form base will not cease.
Or rather, for whomever the form base will not cease, does the eye base of that one not cease?
For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the five-constituent [existence] (pañcavokāra), and for those who, having been reborn in the formless [realm], will attain final Nibbāna — as these are passing away, their form base will not cease, but it is not the case that their eye base does not cease. For those in the formless [realm] who are in their final existence — their form base will not cease, and their eye base does not cease.
