[603] For whomever, wherever, the eye sense base (cakkhāyatana) does not cease, did the ear sense base (sotāyatana) not cease for that one there?
For those being reborn into five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra) and for those without the eye who are passing away from the sense sphere (kāmāvacara): for them there the eye sense base does not cease, but it is not the case that for them there the ear sense base did not cease. For those being reborn into the Pure Abodes (Suddhāvāsa), for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta), and for formless beings (arūpa): for them there the eye sense base does not cease and the ear sense base did not cease.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the ear sense base did not cease, does the eye sense base not cease for that one there?
For those attaining final Nibbāna in the Pure Abodes: for them there the ear sense base did not cease, but it is not the case that for them there the eye sense base does not cease. For those being reborn into the Pure Abodes, for non-percipient beings, and for formless beings: for them there the ear sense base did not cease and the eye sense base does not cease.
