[604] For whomever, wherever, the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not cease, has the nose base (ghānāyatana) of that one there never ceased?
For those who are being reborn into the sense sphere (kāmāvacara) and for the eyeless who are passing away from the sense sphere, the eye base does not cease for them there, but it is not that the nose base has never ceased for them there. For those who are being reborn into the form sphere (rūpāvacara), for the non-percipient beings (asaññasattā), and for the formless beings (arūpā), the eye base does not cease for them there and the nose base has never ceased.
Or else, for whomever, wherever, the nose base has never ceased, does the eye base of that one there not cease?
For those who are passing away from the form sphere, the nose base has never ceased for them there, but it is not that the eye base does not cease for them there. For those who are being reborn into the form sphere, for the non-percipient beings, and for the formless beings, the nose base has never ceased for them there and the eye base does not cease.
