[591] For whomever and wherever the eye base (cakkhāyatana) ceases, had the mind base (manāyatana) ceased for that one there?
For those attaining final Nibbāna in the Pure Abodes (Suddhāvāsa), the eye base ceases for them there, but the mind base had not ceased for them there. For the others, possessing eyes, who are passing away, the eye base ceases for them there and the mind base had ceased.
Or rather, for whomever and wherever the mind base had ceased, does the eye base cease for that one there?
For those being reborn into five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), for those without eyes who are passing away from the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), and for formless beings (arūpa), the mind base had ceased for them there, but the eye base does not cease for them there. For those possessing eyes who are passing away, the mind base had ceased for them there and the eye base ceases.
