[590] For whomever, wherever, the eye base (cakkhāyatana) ceases, has the form base (rūpāyatana) of that one ceased there?
For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the Pure Abodes (Suddhāvāsa): for them there the eye base ceases, but the form base has not ceased for them there. For the others, who possess eyes and are passing away: for them there the eye base ceases and the form base has ceased.
Or else, for whomever, wherever, the form base has ceased, does the eye base of that one cease there?
For those being reborn into the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), for those without eyes who are passing away from the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): for them there the form base has ceased, but the eye base does not cease for them there. For those who possess eyes and are passing away: for them there the form base has ceased and the eye base ceases.
