[639] For whomever the form base (rūpāyatana) does not cease, will the mind base (manāyatana) … the dhamma base (dhammāyatana) of that one not cease?
For all beings who are being reborn and for formless beings who are passing away, the form base of those beings does not cease, but it is not the case that the dhamma base of those beings will not cease. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the formless [realm], the form base of those beings does not cease and the dhamma base will not cease.
Or else, for whomever the dhamma base will not cease, does the form base of that one not cease?
For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent [existence] (pañcavokāra), the dhamma base of those beings will not cease, but it is not the case that the form base of those beings does not cease. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the formless [realm], the dhamma base of those beings will not cease and the form base does not cease.
