[638] For whomever the nose base (ghānāyatana) does not cease, will the mind base (manāyatana) … the dhamma base (dhammāyatana) not cease for him?
For all those who are being reborn, and for those without the nose who are passing away, the nose base does not cease, but it is not the case that the dhamma base will not cease for them. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the form sphere (rūpāvacara) or in the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), the nose base does not cease and the dhamma base will not cease.
Or rather, for whomever the dhamma base will not cease, does the nose base not cease for him?
For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), the dhamma base will not cease, but it is not the case that the nose base does not cease for them. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the form sphere or in the formless sphere, the dhamma base will not cease and the nose base does not cease.
