[1185] For whomever, wherever, the eye faculty (cakkhundriya) does not arise, will the ear faculty (sotindriya) not arise for that one there?
For those passing away from the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), and for those without eyes who are being reborn into the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), the eye faculty does not arise for them there; but it is not the case that the ear faculty will not arise for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the five-constituent existence, for the non-percipient beings (asaññasatta), and for the formless beings (arūpa), the eye faculty does not arise for them there and the ear faculty will not arise.
Or, for whomever, wherever, the ear faculty will not arise, does the eye faculty not arise for that one there?
For those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) who are being reborn into the five-constituent existence, the ear faculty will not arise for them there; but it is not the case that the eye faculty does not arise for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, for the non-percipient beings, and for the formless beings, the ear faculty will not arise for them there and the eye faculty does not arise.
