[1346] Does one who does not fully understand (parijānāti) the eye faculty (cakkhundriya) not develop (bhāveti) the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown' (anaññātaññassāmītindriya)?
The eighth person (aṭṭhamaka) does not fully understand the eye faculty, but it is not that he does not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown'. Setting aside the two persons endowed with the path (maggasamaṅgino), the remaining persons both do not fully understand the eye faculty and do not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown'.
Or rather, does one who does not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown' not fully understand the eye faculty?
The one endowed with the highest path (aggamaggasamaṅgī) does not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown', but it is not that he does not fully understand the eye faculty. Setting aside the two persons endowed with the path, the remaining persons both do not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown' and do not fully understand the eye faculty.
