[1426] Whoever does not fully understand the eye faculty (cakkhundriya), will that one not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown' (anaññātaññassāmītindriya)?
Those ordinary persons (puthujjanā) who will obtain the path (magga) do not fully understand the eye faculty, yet it is not the case that they will not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown'. Eight persons do not fully understand the eye faculty and will not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown'.
Or rather, whoever will not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown', does that one not fully understand the eye faculty?
The one possessed of the highest path (aggamaggasamaṅgī) will not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown', yet it is not the case that he does not fully understand the eye faculty. Eight persons will not develop the faculty 'I shall come to know the unknown' and do not fully understand the eye faculty.
