[502] "For whomever the nose faculty (ghānindriya) arises, does the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) arise for that one?"
For those possessing a nose who are being reborn without equanimity, the nose faculty arises for them, but the equanimity faculty does not arise for them. For those possessing a nose who are being reborn with equanimity, both the nose faculty arises for them and the equanimity faculty arises.
"Or else, for whomever the equanimity faculty arises, does the nose faculty arise for that one?"
For those being reborn with equanimity who are without a nose, the equanimity faculty arises for them, but the nose faculty does not arise for them. For those being reborn with equanimity who possess a nose, both the equanimity faculty arises for them and the nose faculty arises.
