[1148] A phenomenon (dhamma) associated with painful feeling (dukkhā vedanā) is a condition, by way of object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling (adukkhamasukhā vedanā).
Noble ones (ariyā), with a mind (citta) associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling, review the abandoned defilements (kilesa) associated with painful feeling; they review the suppressed defilements; they know the defilements formerly indulged in. With a mind associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling they see with insight the aggregates (khandhā) associated with painful feeling as impermanent, as suffering (dukkha), as non-self. With the knowledge of penetrating the minds of others (cetopariyañāṇa) they know the mind of one who possesses a mind associated with painful feeling.
The aggregates associated with painful feeling are a condition, by way of object condition, for the knowledge of penetrating the minds of others, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of how beings fare according to their kamma (yathākammūpaga-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa), and for adverting (āvajjanā).
Taking as object the aggregates associated with painful feeling, aggregates associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling arise.
