Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (1) · Vol. 40 · Section 1380

[1380] A phenomenon that is neither result nor productive of result (nevavipākanavipākadhammadhamma) is a condition for a phenomenon that is neither result nor productive of result by prenascence condition (purejāta-paccaya): object-prenascence (ārammaṇa-purejāta) and base-prenascence (vatthu-purejāta). Object-prenascence: An Arahant [contemplates] the eye as impermanent … the body; forms … tangibles; the base (vatthu) as impermanent …; [sees] a form with the divine eye …; [hears] a sound with the divine ear element (sotadhātu) …. Base-prenascence: The base is a condition for the aggregates (khandhā) that are neither result nor productive of result by prenascence condition. A phenomenon that is neither result nor productive of result is a condition for a resultant phenomenon (vipāka) by prenascence condition: object-prenascence and base-prenascence. Object-prenascence: Trainers (sekkha) or worldlings (puthujjana) contemplate with insight the eye as impermanent, as suffering, as not-self; they relish it, they delight in it; with that as object, lust (rāga) arises … grief arises. When the wholesome and the unwholesome have ceased, the resultant arises as registration (tadārammaṇatā). The ear … the base as impermanent … registration arises. The form base (rūpāyatana) is a condition for eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa) by prenascence condition … the tangible base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) for body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa). Base-prenascence: The eye base (cakkhāyatana) for eye-consciousness … the body base (kāyāyatana) for body-consciousness; the base is a condition for the resultant aggregates by prenascence condition. A phenomenon that is neither result nor productive of result is a condition for a phenomenon productive of result (vipākadhammadhamma) by prenascence condition: object-prenascence and base-prenascence. Object-prenascence: Trainers or worldlings [contemplate] the eye … with [that] as object, lust arises … grief arises; the ear … the base as impermanent … grief …; [sees] a form with the divine eye …; [hears] a sound with the divine ear element. Base-prenascence: The base is a condition for the aggregates that are productive of result by prenascence condition.
