[1402] A phenomenon that is neither a result nor productive of results (nevavipākanavipākadhammadhamma) [is a condition, by presence condition (atthi-paccaya),] for a phenomenon that is neither a result nor productive of results: conascent (sahajāta), prenascent (purejāta), postnascent (pacchājāta), nutriment (āhāra), faculty (indriya).
Conascent: one aggregate (khandha) that is neither a result nor productive of results is a condition, by presence condition, for three aggregates and for mind-originated forms (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa); two aggregates are a condition, by presence condition, for two aggregates and for mind-originated forms; one great element (mahābhūta) … the great elements are a condition, by presence condition, for mind-originated forms and for kamma-born forms (kaṭattārūpa) — for the derived forms (upādārūpa); external … nutriment-originated … temperature-originated … For the non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): one great element.
Prenascent: an Arahant [contemplates] the eye as impermanent … the ear … the base (vatthu) as impermanent … he sees a form with the divine eye (dibbacakkhu), hears a sound with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu) … the base is a condition, by presence condition, for the aggregates that are neither results nor productive of results.
Postnascent: aggregates that are neither results nor productive of results are a condition, by presence condition, for this prenascent body.
Edible nutriment (kabaḷīkāra āhāra) is a condition, by presence condition, for this body.
The material life faculty (rūpa-jīvitindriya) is a condition, by presence condition, for the kamma-born forms.

Prenascent: trainees (sekkha) or worldlings (puthujjana) [contemplate] the eye as impermanent … they delight in it; with that as object, lust (rāga) arises … grief (domanassa) arises; when the wholesome and the unwholesome have ceased, the resultant [arises] as registration (tadārammaṇatā) … the ear … the base … the resultant [arises] as registration … the form base [is a condition] for eye-consciousness … the tangible base for body-consciousness; the eye base for eye-consciousness, the body base for body-consciousness; the base is a condition, by presence condition, for the resultant aggregates.
A phenomenon that is neither a result nor productive of results is a condition, by presence condition, for a phenomenon productive of results (vipākadhammadhamma) — prenascent: trainees or worldlings [contemplate] the eye as impermanent … they delight in it … grief arises; the ear … the base as impermanent … grief arises; with the divine eye … the base is a condition, by presence condition, for the aggregates that are productive of results.
