[1693] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is undefiled but liable to defilement (asaṅkiliṭṭha-saṅkilesika) is a condition, by immediacy condition (anantara-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is undefiled and not liable to defilement (asaṅkiliṭṭha-asaṅkilesika): change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) is a condition for the path (magga); cleansing (vodāna) for the path; conformity (anuloma) for the attainment of fruition (phala-samāpatti); for one emerging from cessation (nirodha), the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana) is a condition, by immediacy condition, for the attainment of fruition.
