[1248] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is neither of the trainee nor of one beyond training (nevasekkhanāsekkha) is [a condition] for a phenomenon that is neither of the trainee nor of one beyond training … — object predominance (ārammaṇādhipati), conascence predominance (sahajātādhipati). Object predominance: Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), having performed the Uposatha observance, one esteems and reviews it. One esteems and reviews what was formerly well practiced. Having emerged from jhāna, one esteems and reviews the jhāna. The noble ones esteem and review Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) and for purification (vodāna) by predominance condition (adhipati-paccaya). Having esteemed the eye, one relishes and delights in it; having esteemed it, lust (rāga) arises, wrong view (diṭṭhi) arises. The ear … the base (vatthu) … Having esteemed the aggregates (khandha) that are neither of the trainee nor of one beyond training, one relishes and delights in them; having esteemed them, lust arises, wrong view arises. Conascence predominance: A predominance (adhipati) that is neither of the trainee nor of one beyond training is a condition for the associated aggregates and for mind-originated forms (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa) by predominance condition.
