[685] A phenomenon (dhamma) to be abandoned neither by seeing (dassana) nor by development (bhāvanā) is a condition, by predominance condition (adhipati-paccaya), for a phenomenon to be abandoned by seeing.
Object-predominance (ārammaṇādhipati): Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), having performed the Uposatha observance (uposathakamma), having esteemed that, one relishes and delights in it; having esteemed that, lust (rāga) to be abandoned by seeing arises, view (diṭṭhi) arises. Having esteemed what was formerly well practiced … Having emerged from jhāna, having esteemed the jhāna … Having esteemed the base (vatthu) and the aggregates (khandhā) to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development, one relishes and delights in them; having esteemed that, lust to be abandoned by seeing arises, view arises.
