[675] A phenomenon (dhamma) to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development is a condition, by way of object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon to be abandoned by seeing.
Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), having performed the uposatha observance, one relishes and delights in that; with that as object, lust (rāga) to be abandoned by seeing arises, wrong view (diṭṭhi) arises, doubt (vicikicchā) arises, grief (domanassa) to be abandoned by seeing arises. One reviews what was formerly well practised.
Having emerged from jhāna, one relishes the jhāna; with that as object, lust to be abandoned by seeing … wrong view … doubt … When the jhāna has deteriorated, for one who is remorseful … grief to be abandoned by seeing arises.
One relishes and delights in the eye; the ear … the nose, the tongue, the body, forms (rūpa), sounds, odours, tastes, tangible objects … the base (vatthu); one relishes and delights in the aggregates (khandha) to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development; with that as object, lust to be abandoned by seeing … wrong view … doubt …
